  4. Defense against the attack of the snails

The snail is a good mollusk in many ways but they are also considered as pest because their fatal impact in agriculture. They destroy crops by eating roots, leaves, steams and fruits.
We have a solution to prevent the attack. Pour iron sulfate along the perimeter of the cultivated plot of land.
This way, the outsiders who want to enter the limited area will die by the contact of the lethal component. Those who were inside the line before will have to be removed by hand or will perish on their way out.

  5. The ecological agriculture is one of our priorities in our school garden, this is why we use straw on some cultivations in order to:
    - Keep the damp of the soil
    - Protect them from high or low temperatures
    - Prevent the weed to grow

  6. We present how to fight some plagues such as fruit fly, plant louse or any aphids in a natural way, preventing the use of phytosanitary products which happens to be bad for our health and the environment.
In our school garden as in every agriculture plot of land, we have some troublemakers, invaders. In order to get rid of them we must use friendly elements of nature.

These little bugs, like everyone else, will die if we block their vital cycle. In this case we will abort their feeding using a non harmful procedure.
We must fumigate the critic zone with soapy water so that the little bugs will get stuck to the surface, not able to move away, so they will perish. The only thing we have to do is to break their cycle with a non abrasive product.

However, we must not use commercial soap because its composition generates bubbles, the unstoppable foam could make the flask or back pack sprayer burst.

Therefore, we must use natural soap. To create it we will utilize used oil, getting a second purpose, to recycle.

The used oil, strained, mixed with caustic soda and place over low heat until a solid mass, will give us a natural soap, ready to clean the darkest spot. Dissolved in a liquid water will give us a sticky, fluid, foam control, able to adhere to these insects and kill them so harmless for us or for the environment.

  7. You can get rid of the troublemakers, the so-called invaders in a natural way - using plants. You can make a liquid out of water and nettles (10 l of water/ 1 kg of nettles). Once the compost is prepared it is left for two or three weeks to get rot. Although the smell is quite disturbing, the benefits are tremendous. The nettles not only kills the bugs, but it also helps the trees and plants grow.
It is known the fact(at least here, in Romania)that nettles are very healthy. One cup of nettle tea a day, makes your blood thinner, provides vtamins and gives you strenght. That is why we use nettles as food, tea...we have shampoo, soap and other cosmetic products.

  8. Another way to help your plants grow is by fertilizing the soil with natural products. Although it might seem awkward, the animal waste is the best fertilizer ever. Cow manure can be spread on the ground and then planted seeds or seedlings. It is very rich in vitamins and helps plants grow.

  9. We forgot to mention that the plants and the trees are sprayed with the nettle solution.

  10. GREECE: When you start a garden, you should choose a land with no rocks and not that much used in order to have a good harvest. The time of the year that you are going to prepare the land and plant the seeds is very important especially in countries like Greece’s that the sun is shining most of the time and the rains are too little.

  11. Not a lot of people know that eggshell are excellent fertilizer; they contain calcium, potassium and phosphorur which let plants grow robust and vigorous!

If you want to capture children’s curiosity put a still little fruit in a bottle with a strange shape; you will see the fruit that grows like that shape, so you can have a pyramidal-apple or a square-melon!!!

If you want to keep away the parasites from your plants put some garlic in a bottle of water. After some days sprinkle it on the leaves. The parasites will go somewhere else…
